Scarf Pull
The scarf pull is a fun activity that will encourage fine and gross motor development and hand strength through reaching, grasping and pulling. Your little ones will need to engage their core in order to keep balance nad not fall over as they pull the scarves out.
Both my son and daughter loved this activity.
Materials:
Toilet rolls
Play silks/scarves
Decorators tape
How to set up:
Tape the toilet paper rolls vertically to the wall with decorators tape.
Positioning will be dependent on whether your child is standing or sitting. Vary the heights and make sure they need to reach in order to grab the scarves.
If your little on is just starting to pull up, you can place a stool or something similar to help them stand up and balance.
Great for:
Motor Skills enable children to move and complete tasks independently which in turn will allow them to explore the world around them. This independence gives them confidence and promotes cognitive, speech and sensory development.
Fine Motor Skills involve the small muscles working with the brain in order to control small movements. Developing fine motor skills helps children do things like eating, writing and getting dressed.
Balance is required in walking, climbing and even sitting. There are two types of balance, dynamic balance which is the ability to stay in position during activities that require movement such as walking. Static balance is the ability to maintain position during station tasks such as standing or sitting.
Focus and concentration help children to learn. Most skills are learned by practising them over and over, so being able to block out distractions and focus on particular tasks will help the rate in which they learn.
