Literacy

Early literacy means helping children develop a rich vocabulary, self-expression, and reading comprehension—tools they need to become successful readers and lifelong learners.

Children are not expected to know how to read before they begin big school, but familiarity with letter formation and basic understanding of phonics can help make the transition into school easier and set them up with a readiness to learn.

Playing rhyming games and games like phonics I-spy can make learning fun, and role playing can really help to expand your child’s vocabulary.

Happy Little Doers have some great resources that include simple activities to engage and encourage learning.
