Teething Toys
Teething toys are beneficial for helping relieve a baby’s pain, but also for helping their cognitive development. A teething toy allows a baby to develop a variety of grasping skills and are excellent for hand eye coordination. It also teaches them the beginnings of problem solving and helps them become more independent. They realise that if they have sore gums, they can pick up a teether, and if they can get it in their mouths, the pain is relieved. This is something they can achieve independently.
In the earlier stages my children found it easiest to hold on to ring shaped teethers or teethers that had multiple places to grab. As they reached 4-5 months, the teethers that were more stick shaped were great for developing hand eye coordination. This was particularly helpful in preparation for baby led weaning.
My son had quite a strong gag reflex when we did start weaning and we used the ARK’s Baby Grabber to help with oral motor development and to help push the gag reflex further back.
