Jigsaw Puzzles
We are huge fans of jigsaw puzzles in this house. There are countless learning benefits including fine motor skills, hand eye-coordination, observation skills, sorting, classifying, problem solving, focus, patience, strategic and logical thinking.
We started when my daughter was two. After the chunkier wooden puzzles, we started with simple 2, 3, 4 + 5-piece puzzles. We then moved on to puzzles with fixed edges and the shapes etched into the base. This really helped her to learn to look at shapes as well as colours.
She then went on a puzzle hiatus for nearly a year and didn’t pick them up again until she was 3. It’s quite common for their interests to come in ebbs and flows so keep trying from time to time with puzzles that are an appropriate level of challenge for them!
