Small World Play

Small world play is a form of imaginative play in which children use props or toys. Rather than playing an active role in stories the way they do in role play, children take on the position of a spectator.

Small world play allows children to use their imagination and to express thoughts and experiences into their play, whilst exploring the world they live in. It also helps with building their language skills, expanding their vocabulary and their understanding.

As they act out scenarios from real life, they will also develop social skills, and gain an understanding of the world.

Useful elements for creating small world scenes include vehicles, roads/train tracks, bridges, arches, houses, blocks, people, animals, and trees.
